Well the first week back at work has been completed and lockdown 3.0 has commenced. Luckily there is hope on the horizon with vaccinations being given out across the country. It’s going to take a long time for everyone to be vaccinated but we are heading in the right direction. 2021 might have had a more positive start then we initially gave it credit for.
This week I decided to implement a new morning routine. I used to do yoga every morning before work and I am pleased to say that I completed my daily practice before work this week for the first time in too long. Getting up at 05:30 isn’t the most pleasant but there was only one morning where I wanted to drag myself back into bed. Yoga is just such a lovely way to start the day. You can move your body helping wake you up, you can be present with your thoughts before being bombarded with the news or social media and it’s just nice!
My Morning Routine
My alarm is set for 05:30 on my watch so as not to wake Matthew up, I take my temperature for cycle tracking and get up straight away, if I don't I know I will not get up at all!
I go into the kitchen and make my greens powder drink, this is a great way to get nutrients into the system and it ups my water intake.
Then I practice yoga, I tend to pick the practice the night before so I am ready to go. I also get my yoga clothes out ready so I am not faffing, it also means I have less of a chance to change my mind
Meditate, after yoga I sit and meditate for 10 minutes. I used to meditate in the evening but recently I just haven’t been able to carve out the time.
Dry brush, I only do this 3-4 days a week as it does not need to be done everyday. Dry brushing is a great way to stimulate the lymphatic system, exfoliate the skin, help the body rid itself of toxins and increase circulation and energy.
I then shower, apply my face creams and lotions and get dressed
I then eat my morning snack of carrot, rocket, salt and extra virgin olive oil. Ordinarily I do not eat until I get to work as biking on a full stomach isn’t the best, but seeing as I’m now getting up earlier I need to eat something to avoid too long of a fast. Carrots are great for helping rid the body of excess hormones, rocket is full of good vitamins and minerals, salt is essential for balancing fluids in the blood and maintaining healthy blood pressure, and it is also essential for nerve and muscle function. Extra virgin olive oil is a good source of fat. This is a great snack for anytime of the day for anyone looking to balance their hormones.
Then it’s off to work!
This ones quick - there is no real update! The date has been pushed back to February/March but really we knew January was too early considering windows were not in before Christmas. We do have an ongoing dispute about the placement of the washing machine and I am not holding my breath for this to be resolved which is annoying as what should be the utility room could possibly just be a wasted space!
I know a lot of people are setting new year's resolutions, these tend to include things such as weight loss, increased exercise etc. This year I wanted to make my 2021 goals more personal so instead of setting resolutions, I set intentions. If you missed this week's post you can read it here. It’s all about how 2021 will be my healthiest happiest year yet! In keeping with this year's intentions, I have gone a whole week without drinking coffee! I feel so much better when I don’t drink coffee throughout the day, I haven’t noticed any improvements in my sleep yet but I am finding that my energy levels are a lot more consistent throughout the day and I am not getting that early afternoon slump that leads me back to the coffee jar. Coffee isn’t bad for everyone, I think we all just need to tune into our bodies sometimes and evaluate how we feel after consuming certain foods and drinks. For me, I know I feel better when I cut out coffee and the sugar and dairy that comes with it.
I hope you're all looking after yourself in this new lockdown and staying safe x
